Art Flocks To The Garment District
Our 2015 Arts programming kicks off not with a bang, but a hoot, a colossal, 26 foot tall hoot.
Starting January 3rd, the Garment District Plazas will be home to Avian Avatars, a series of five giganticmythical bird sculptures by artists Donna Dodson and Andy Moerlein. In addition to an owl, Dodson and Moerlein, also known as the Myth Makers, have created massive versions of birds that New Yorkers are very familiar with, including a crow, a red-tailed hawk, a falcon and a Victoria crowned pigeon. Each titanic avian will have its own plaza along Broadway through April.
The Avian Avatars are constructed from sapling branches, wire ties and repurposed materials, each with their own Myth, and will be the first winter exhibit in our Garment District Art on the Plazas public art series. Keep an eye on our website for more information as we close in on 2015.
