The Garment District Alliance is excited to present a Summer commissioned artwork by New York City artist Steed Taylor. Titled "Sew and Sew", the artwork honors the long and rich history of the Garment District by incorporating the names of people who have worked for 20 or more years in the fashion industry or Garment District within the artwork.
The artwork is one of Taylor’s road tattoos, which are commemorative, site-specific, community based, tattoo-inspired, public artworks on roads, as seen in this film.
About 400-feet long, it will be located on 2 blocks of Broadway, 36th & 37th and 39th & 40th, as part of this summer's Garment District Urban Garden. Installation willbegin the week of June 15th. with the public dedication scheduled for June 19th.
If you know someone fitting this criteria, send their name and number of years working. During the 10 AM, 6/19, public dedication, their first name and number of years will be written in the artwork, then painted over after Community leaders speak and a dedication is officiated.
If you have questions, want more information or have a name to be included, contact Steed Taylor directly at (646)288-6426 or firstname.lastname@example.org .
