Seen & Unseen
We love putting art in places where it "doesn't belong." Our Space for Public Art program has produced over 175 installations, exhibits and performances in unexpected locations.
The latest installation features five acrylic paintings by NYC-based artist Geoffrey Stein which you can find in the windows of the Wheeler Building at 28 West 38th Street. A figurative painter, Stein is interested in the tension between abstraction and realism, and his paintings explore the seen and unseen in the world. Acrylic on canvas, Stein’s E.F. will be displayed in the West Window of the G-System Space, and NYC Watertower, Foggy Empire State Building, Night Shadows and Night Traffic will be showcased in the East Window.
The paintings will be up until September 15th.
Formerly a reinsurance litigator, Stein began painting full-time in 2000 at the New York Studio School. He received an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London in 2007. Based in New York City, Stein is represented by the Lionheart Gallery in Pound Ridge, New York, and the Minster Gallery in the UK.
