Cut through the mid-block passageway that is the lobby of the Kaufman Arcade, and you'll find "Separate Light," the latest installation from our Space for Public Art program.
Fourteen luminous works from NYC-based artist Tom Koken adorn the walls of 132 West 36th Street. The colorful canvas drawings are part of a larger series that depict two-dimensional representations of of light, created through a contrast of texture and color.
Originally from St. Louis, Koken studied at Kansas City Art Institute and received a BFA with honors from School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work has been featured in several one-person shows and numerous group exhibitions in places like Chicago, Toronto, and the far-off land known as Times Square.
