Uncharted Territories Natalia NakazawaSpace for Public Art 215 West 38th Street, New York 10018
Were you to walk by the Garment District Space for Public Art on 38th Street you'd find our window completely blacked out apart from two clear circles and the words "LOOK HERE" beckoning you to take a peek inside. This is only the initial experience of Uncharted Territories, the latest installation by artist Natalia Nakazawa.
Uncharted Territories explores the impact of climate change through imaginative dioramas. These dreamlike environments are meant to serve as moments of contemplation in the midst of an endlessly urban landscape in Manhattan.
With a passion for paintings and installations, Natalia Nakazawa through her artwork mixes signals and reconfigures meanings. Drawing upon a diverse cultural background from Japan, Uruguay and America, and an incessant desire to travel, her images seek to capture the uncanny, juxtaposing unlikely scenes together.
Uncharted Territories will be on display until Halloween.
