Day Trip - Opening Reception
On Thursday September 7th, Nepenthes celebrates the opening of its newest installation, Day Trip, featuring photographs by Katsu Naito and a pop-up shop by Danner boots.
Katsu Naito, a Japanese native who moved to NYC in 1983, began to work shooting models in a studio and working as a black & white printer custom photo labs in 1987. In the late 1980's his interest of shooting took place in the streets and one of his self assignment projects, a portrait series of prostitutes "West Side Rendezvous", had led to exhibits in Nepenthes and Printed Matter in New York; South2West8 in Sapporo, Japan; and LN-CC in London UK.
After the exhibitions "West Side Rendezvous" was published by Wild Life Press in London. His second book "Once in Harlem" will be released from TBW books at the New York Art Book Fair in 2017. He also has an ongoing project "Super New Yorker" that's in a pipeline. He works with black and white film and prints in a traditional darkroom exclusively.
