Music has often been used as a background for yoga, massage and exercise, but music can also be the focus of meditation practice. Jazz as an art form is based on being completely focused in the present moment. Jazz musicians do this by being aware of their surroundings and harmonizing with the other musicians as well as the mood of the audience. A Shinnyo Center meditation guide will explore this concept as musicians play off the words of the guide who in-turn will reflect the musical accompaniment in the leading of his practice to audience members.
The sessions are led by a Shinnyo meditation guide, with accompaniment by Nick Gianni on saxophone, Takeshi Asai on piano and Kenji Tajima on percussion.
