Thursday Block Party: Garment District History
When you gather ‘round Charlie Palmer Steak’s patio every Thursday at happy hour, you’ll be introduced to a new and unique special guest each week, a selection comprised of the city’s most interesting movers and shakers, ranging from prominent New York editors to A-list members of the hospitality industry. Attendees will be privy to a Q&A panel discussion with each week's special guest, alongside complimentary happy hour fare.
On this night you'll joined by our own neighborhood tour guide, Michael Kaback, a “garmento” himself for many years, will guide us through a brief history of the apparel industry in New York City, from Henry Hudson to the present time. Old Fashions will be served as Kaback discusses the advent of mass production, the development of “sizes,” the invention of synthetic fibers, and the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.
