Zoning Changes
In December 2018, the New York City Council voted to remove the Special Garment Center District Zoning Overlay, which has been in place for 30 years. This change took effect immediately, and the neighborhood is now released from regulations that restricted millions of square feet of space.
As part of this, IDA tax credits are being given to owners who agree to maintain space for manufacturing for the next 15 years, and the Garment District Alliance will organize programming to support and improve the manufacturing community in our neighborhood.
