Take a vibrant stroll down our latest public art installation, The Runway Routine.
This new 200-foot surface mural by New York-based artist duo CAZORLA + SALEME serves as the centerpiece of the Urban Garden, which also includes new horticultural plantings designed by Design Wild and artificial turf throughout the Broadway plazas, creating a welcoming, park-like atmosphere in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
Inspired by the Year of the Fire Horse and the Garment District's enduring connection to fashion and textiles, the artwork features the artists' signature floral motifs unfolding across the pavement like a living fabric.
Created exclusively for the Garment District Alliance, The Runway Routine reflects the artists' vision of color, movement and renewal. Drawing inspiration from nature, fashion and the energy of the neighborhood, the mural invites visitors to become part of the artwork as they move through the space.
Patricia Cazorla and Nancy Saleme are queer Venezuelan-American artists and aunt-niece collaborators who have worked together in New York City since the 1990s. Through public art, participatory projects and community-focused interventions, the duo has built a practice centered on resilience, optimism and the democratization of beauty. Their previous work with GDA includes Ararauna, a surface mural presented on the Broadway Plaza in 2018.
Presented in partnership with the New York City Department of Transportation's Art Program (NYC DOT Art).
"We are delighted to once again transform Broadway into an engaging public space that brings art, culture and community together," said Barbara A. Blair, president of the Garment District Alliance. "Whether stopping by during a lunch break, meeting friends outdoors or simply passing through the neighborhood, visitors will discover a lively and inviting atmosphere that celebrates the spirit of summer in the Garment District."
