New State Budget Addresses Midtown Concerns

NY State
FY2023 Budget

Governor Kathy Hochul announced that an agreement on the state budget has been reached. This is great news as the new budget includes many items relating to public safety and revitalization which are critical to bringing workers and visitors back to our Midtown office buildings, shops, restaurants and cultural destinations.

The Garment District Alliance applauds Governor Hochul, the Senate, and the Assembly for reaching agreement on a budget that includes more services for those in crisis and more tools for judges to deal with repeat offenders and those charged with certain weapons crimes and domestic abuse.

The GDA has been a vocal and assertive advocate for balanced and just ramifications for perpetrators, and meaningful help for those in need of treatment and housing.  We have worked with our community boards, neighborhood organizations and the Midtown BID Coalition to make our voices heard in Albany and we are gratified that our concerns are being addressed.

We thank Governor Hochul, the State Senate, and State Assembly for hearing the concerns of our organization, and the many of you who have contacted your elected officials at our urging.
